​creative assistance for independent & professional artists

in this role act as a mentor and/or creative catalyst 

together we will:

  • focus on the artist's ideas

  • look at the artist's source material for imagery

  • suggest areas of research for the artist

  • consider the artist's technical artmaking skills and offer practical advice

  • encourage the artist find ways to integrate their ideas and their tangible artworks so as to present a resolved body of work​

  • help the artist to compose any artwriting needed to accompany their work

  • I also undertake online creative assistance via ZOOM

a variety of workshops are on offer

  • foundation drawing - this is a 6 session course that explores the formal elements of artmaking, and how to develop your own style of markmaking

  • printmaking - monotype and relief printing (bespoke workshops)

  • simple bookmaking for artists - looking at creating different artist's book formats in relation to the images they will contain

  • contemporary artwriting for artists - this covers how to write an artist's statement, a press release, a catalogue essay and for social media; it explores how your writing style reflects your 'brand' as an artist - also available via ZOOM

  • group sizes: maximum of 4 participants to ensure attention

  • the workshops are structured in an atmosphere of relaxed encouragement 

  • low-toxic studio practice: water-based inks - eco-friendly cleaning materials - paper recycling

  • my studio library of books about art history, artmaking practices and contemporary art is great for browsing and triggering ideas, especially during coffee breaks!
